MY OLD MAN

If you’re a fan of Mac Demarco’s masterpieces, you must be familiar with his simple yet soothing music and lyrics. Some of his fans might say that he’s an unpretentious singer and songwriter that can give room for fun and craziness in his music. However, in his new album, titled “This Old Dog” – which was released in May this year – he lets us engage more into his emotional lyrics.
Letting us go deep into his personal life, his opening track “My Old Man” actually tells a story about his unstable relationship with his father as a man who has walked in and out from his life since he was five years old. Going deeper into his heartbreak, the closing track “Watching Him Fade Away” finally says it all. With the warped organ as the only instrument, we can capture his disappointment and the feeling of letting go of something that he should’ve had.
