PAPRIKA
by JAPANESE BREAKFAST

"Named after Satoshi Kon’s surreal anime film, Paprika."

PART OF JUBILEE ALBUM
RELEASED ON 2021

After spending the last five years writing about grief, Michelle Zauner aka Japanese Breakfast, wanted the next album to be about joy, and it’s reflected in the 2 opener songs.

"Paprika" and "Be Sweet" are excellent songs to start the album. Song in the video and one of my favorite from the album, “Paprika”, is named after Satoshi Kon’s surreal anime film Paprika, but it also calls to mind another one of the Japanese director’s masterpieces, Perfect Blue.

Her production is a fusion between moods and thoughtful melodies whilst her recognizable vocals bounce from calmness to luscious harmonies. The layers of instruments create a lush and dreamy foundation while the vocals lay back and glues it all together.
